This course is for occupational healthcare workers who have previously received competency certification for spirometry within the last 5 years*.

Trainer
Deborah Taylor CRFS (Respiratory Scientist), was employed as the Charge Respiratory Physiologist for the Hawke’s Bay Hospital for 22 years. Deborah has had extensive experience in teaching and training community-based spirometry throughout New Zealand for 15 years. Deborah was part of a working group that published a position paper in Respirology February 2021 “Assessing Spirometry Competence for Community Based Spirometry in Australia and New Zealand”.

Cost: Members $340 plus GST, Non-members $360 plus GST

Course Content


 The ATS 2019 Spirometry standards and interpretation.

 Review of spirometry technique

 Infection control, including the use of in-line filters

 Calibration using a 3-litre syringe

 Portfolio submission and competency certification

 Silicosis, spirometry and longitudinal monitoring

 The use of a 3-litre calibration syringe

 Software application training

 How to add comments and delete trials

 Interpretation

 Q and A


Please Note: All participants must bring their own spirometer and calibration syringe.
