LegalSafe is New Zealand’s largest health & safety law conference, bringing together almost 500 health and safety professionals, consultants, lawyers and managers together over three days in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
New Zealand is entering a particularly interesting phase in health and safety law. We are seeing an increasing body of case law, including the first prosecutions to be appealed in the High Court. In addition, Enforceable Undertakings are increasingly gaining use as a tool in WorkSafe New Zealand’s enforcement repertoire. Australia has seen its first ‘reckless’ level prosecution under the Model Law, and Corporate Manslaughter has made it to the statute books in Queensland – something which our own Justice Minister has expressed interest in.
