Information for employers:
Occupational health nurses:
Occupational health nurses (OHN’s) are New Zealand registered nurses that have qualifications and experience in occupational health and safety. We work to help clients maintain compliance with new health and safety legislative requirements. Almost all have a degree as their base qualification and many have post graduate diplomas or Masters in their chosen field within occupational health and/or safety.
Most belong to a professional association, the New Zealand Occupational Health Nurses Association, and must adhere to the practice standards bound by the New Zealand Nursing Council to maintain their annual practicing certificate.
Occupational health nurses provide professional, friendly on site occupational health services which includes occupational health monitoring.
An example of some of the services we provide include (but is not limited to):
Hearing tests; lung function tests; vision screening; musculoskeletal review; cardio vascular risk assessment; pre employment health assessment; annual health monitoring; workplace drug testing; workplace and on site vaccinations; workplace inspections; workplace assessments including ergonomics, and well health/return to work programmes.
This is an example of what most OHN’s can do but please call your local executive member or contact us to find out more.
